Eric had been sick with strep throat all week, so his boss basically gave him the week off (oh yeah, his whole office has been battling strep too). By Thursday he was feeling much better, but didn't find it necessary to work for half a day before a holiday weekend. Psh. We packed up and headed to my grandparents cabin in Highlands, NC where some of my extended family was, celebrating the 4th of July weekend.
Thursday night we enjoyed bratwurts and a grits bar that my dad concocted. Followed up by s'mores and time with my extended family around the firepit.
Friday morning Eric and I drove out to Asheville with a long list of goals:
- see the newly renovated wing at the Biltmore (we bought seasons passes back in Nov for cheaper than tickets)
- go on their (free) wine tasting tour
- have lunch at Corner Kitchen - our favorite little semi-organic/vegetarian lunch stop
- visit French Broad Brewing Company for a tasting
- drive to downtown Asheville to check out a highly acclaimed beer store
- have dinner at the Biltmore Bistro
Unfortunately the photos from the first half of our date/day were deleted in my infinite wisdom. Who knew that "reset all camera settings" actually includes "delete all the pictures from your memory card"? But here are a few favorites from the rest of the day:

Our Beer Tasting FlightSaturday Eric took a few of the guys out for a water fall hike before we drove back to Atlanta. He enjoys guy time, and it gave me the opportunty to finish writing thank you notes from my bridal shower.
Such a fun weekend and a much needed get-a-way that was, except for our meals out & gas, totally free! Thank you Pap & Nannie for your generous hospitality!

What a fun trip! I really want to go to Asheville - it seems like a bit of a little hippie town.
